EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena. Simply put, EVP's are recordings of spirit voices. At the time of a recording nothing is heard, but when played back you may hear voices. Often the recording has to be amplified and clarified using Audio editing software. You can record EVP's using any audio recording device, however it should either have an external microphone or be a Digital recorder, so no mechanical noises from the operation of the recorder is picked up.

A note on the time of day or night, the listed time is when the recording was started, if multiple recordings are listed at the same time, and two recorders were not used at the same time, then the listed time is the start time of the recording. Our recording sessions are usually 2-3 minutes in length, so the actual recording time might be off by one or two minutes. If we record for a much longer time, such as five minutes or longer (which is unlikely) then the actual recording time of the EVP will be noted.

Here are some of the EVP's we have recorded. Most of these EVP's are very low and you might have to turn your volume up in order to hear them.

Gary's recording in an old abondoned house.

Says, "I'mo git u for foolin'wid me."

Avenel Board Room. Sandy and Sue asked if anyone wanted to talk.

Below are some of our first EVPs

"Can't, So Hard"

Time: 7:23 PM

Date: 2/1/06

Location: Booger Woods

Recorded By:  Jonathan Ayers, Sue Sereno

After asking my opening question, I asked Sue if she would like to ask a question, in-between my asking her and her replying, this is the reply I got.

"No"

Time: 7:23 PM

Date: 2/1/06

Location: Booger Woods

Recorded By: Jonathan Ayers, Sue Sereno

After asking the opening question, this is the reply we got.

"They Got Eyes On Me"

Time: 1:30 PM

Date: 2/28/06

Location: Booger Woods

Recorded By: Sue Sereno

Before she even said the time and date, this is what she got.

"No, It's Not"

Time: 1:30 PM

Date: 2/28/06

Location: Booger Woods

Recorded By: Sue Sereno

Sue asked "Do you stay here?", this was the reply.

"Is She Mine?"

Time: 7:15 PM

Date: 3/29/06

Location: Booger Woods

Recorded By: Sue Sereno, Jonathan Ayers, Peggy Graybill

We did not think we would get anything with this one. The birds in the woods were chirping constantly, but in-between chirps we heard something, we could not clear it up to understand exactly what was said, but before that we got this one, we have no idea what the voice is referring to, the standard opening question had been asked several seconds before.

"Name"

Time: 7:10 PM

Date: 4/02/06

Location: Booger Woods

Recorded By: Jonathan Ayers, Sue Sereno

This was recorded on my Digital Recorder, this is a voice apparantly saying my name, this was not on Sue's Recorder.

"Honey"

Time: 8:00 PM

Date: 4/02/06

Location: Booger Woods

Recorded By: Sandra Ayers

After asking the opening question, then several more, there was this reply, apparantly calling her "honey".

"No"

Time: Around 10:00 AM

Date: 8/9/2005

Location: Old Fort Jackson, Savannah, Georgia

Recorded By: Sue Sereno

After asking if anyone was there, Sue got this reply.

"No"

Time: About 9:15 PM

Date: 7/01/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan Ayers

I went into the Lee room to retrieve the Sony video camera and to make a recording, and got this one and the one below.

"Help Me"

Time: About 9:15 PM

Date: 7/01/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan Ayers

I asked if anyone wanted to make their presence known and got a woman's voice saying this.

"Meow"

Time: 8:50 PM

Date: 7/01/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Peggy Graybill

Peggy and Sandy were in the downstairs parlor. Peggy left her Digital recorder on the couch, while they walked around to take pictures. She got a cat meowing on the recording, but there was no cat in the house.

"Water"

Time: 1:18 PM

Date: 7/08/2006

Location: Pest House Museum, Old City Cemetery, Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan Ayers

The Pest House is Lynchburg's first hospital. It is a small two-room house. During the Civil War Pestilence (and any other infectious diseases) were treated there by Dr. John Jay Terrell. A few years ago Sue's daughter Pam got an EVP saying "Water please", I asked if the person who said there was still there, and got this reply. A note on the sound quality, my question and the EVP change tones because the EVP has been filtered and amplified, however this would make my voice sound extremely loud so I applied the filtering only to the EVP section.

"Shield"

Time: 1:52 PM

Date: 7/08/2006

Location: Presbyterian Cemetery, Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan Ayers

I noticed while recording this there was a headstone several feet in front of me with the name "Pound" and on the bottom "The voices we love are stilled." engraved on the bottom. I thought the irony of this was funny, because through EVP we can see that the voices are not stilled. Immediately after making a comment about it a woman's voice says this. We have no idea what it means or what she is referring to.

"Loud Bang"

Time: Approximately 8:30 PM

Date: 8/12/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Gary and Nanci Hall

GHOSTEC was contacted by an individual who had done an investigation of the Avenel House after our second investigation. Gary and his wife had set up several Infrared cameras and left two cassette recorders in both the Lee room and the pink room. He and his wife went downstairs to let the equipment record. No one else was in the house at the time. Upon reviewing the cassette tapes there was a loud bang that sounds as if something had hit the floor. However, according to Gary, when they went back upstairs to retrieve the equipment nothing was out of place, and they had not heard the loud noise downstairs. Gary met us and we reviewed the recording, and with his permission digitized it. After digitizing it there are sounds present that Gary and Nanci were not aware of before, what sounds like two quick, heavy breaths, movement and the sounds of bed springs. This correlates with the legend of the bed in the Lee room which is supposed to have someone sit on it and a depression becoming visible. (however this recording was not in the Lee room) With his permission we have posted the recordings. Interestingly the second cassette recorder located in the Lee room, which is two rooms away from the pink room, also recorded this loud bang. That recording is below.

"Loud Bang"

Time: Approximately 8:30 PM

Date: 8/12/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Gary and Nanci Hall

The same loud bang as above, recorded by another cassette recorder in another room.

"Need Help"

Time:

Date: 8/25/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By:

Sounds like "need help."

"Bed Her"

Time:

Date: 11/25/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Sue

We are not quite sure what is being said in this recording, it sounds like "bed her." It was recorded in the "board room" upstairs at the Avenel House.

"Shut Your Mouth"

Time:

Date: 8/25/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

There are two sounds in this one. The first being a voice that sounds like it is saying "Shut your mouth!", followed by what sounds like a dog whining. There were no dogs at Avenel either that night or any night currrently.

"I'm Sorry"

Time:

Date: 8/25/2006

Location: Avenel House, Bedford, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

"Unknown"

Time:

Date: 7/08/2006

Location: Forest Hill Cemetary, Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

This was recorded at the grave of famous poet Ann Spencer. At the time of the recorder a man in a loud pickup truck drove through the cemetary, and unfortunately we did get the rumble of his engine in the recording. However we also got what sounds like a man and a woman talking. We cannot tell what they are saying, but it does sound like a conversation, or as if the man is asking the woman something.

"Go In Here"

Time:

Date: 8/01/2007

Location: Private residence. Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

Stating the time, date, and who was with us for an EVP, we got what sounds like a woman's voice talking over mine. It sounds like she is saying "Go in here."

"Cunning"

Time:

Date: 8/01/2007

Location: Private residence. Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

Same residence as above. Sue stated where we were, and a voice said "cunning."

"Damn"

Time:

Date: 8/01/2007

Location: Private residence. Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

A voice saying "damn."

"Moan"

Location: Private residence. Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

We were doing an EVP, and between questions we got what sounds like a man moaning.

"Terror"

Time:

Date: 8/01/2007

Location: Private residence. Lynchburg, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

A voice saying "terror."

"Damn It"

Time:

Date: 8/01/2007

Location: Lyn-Dan Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Evington, Virginia

Recorded By: Jonathan

A voice saying what sounds like "damn it."

"Git Up, Come On"

Time:

Date:

Location:  Abandoned House

Recorded By: Gary and Nanci

All of the following EVP's were recorded at the same abandoned house mentioned in Freelance Investigation #008, between 2/29/2008 and 4/15/2008.

"I'm Going To Get You For Messin' Wit' Me!"

Time:

Date:

Location: Abandoned House

Recorded By: Gary

Gary was alone in the house at night, when he recorded this.

"Go Back"

Time:

Date:

Location: Abandoned House

Recorded By: Jonathan

A voice telling us to "Go back inside." Jonathan and Nanci were in the parlor, Gary was upstairs. We do not know what the click is near the end.

"Negroes"

Time:

Date:

Location: Abandoned House

Recorded By: Gary

Gary was upstairs in the attic when he asked "Is there anyone up here with me?", and he got this as an answer. The abandoned house is built around an old slave cabin, and thus, why we think we got this reply. Nanci and their friend Bill were downstairs.

"I Hear You, Too"

Time:

Date:

Location: Abandoned House

Recorded By: Gary and Nanci

Gary and Nanci's friend Karen was with them, and asked "Are you for real?', and got this as a reply.

"We Love You, Nanci"

Time:

Date:

Location: Abandoned House

Recorded By: Gary and Nanci

A voice telling us that they loved Nanci.

"Yes"

Time:

Date:

Location: Abandoned House

Recorded By: Gary and Nanci

Nanci asked if anyone would like to talk to her, and she got this answer. This first part of the EVP is unaltered, the second half with the "yes" is amplified.

"Please Be Quiet"

Time:

Date:

Location: Abandoned House

Recorded By: Gary and Nanci

Gary tried an experiment in the abandoned house. He used an ultrasonic transmitter to create a tone, and played it while recording. He got a voice saying "Please be quiet." It might be hard to hear it, but it's at the end of the EVP. The tone you hear is the ultrasonic transmitter.
