An abandoned house was found in 2007 by GHOSTEC member Gary Hall. The house is over 100 years old, very unconventional in construction, and has had many additions. It is located in central Virginia, and has been vacant (and in poor condition) for probably at least 30 years. It seems to have a lot of spirit activity, as Gary, Nanci, and other members have recorded unusual EVP's there, and it has the advantage of being very isolated and quiet. One odd aspect is that the home was built around a very old slave cabin, the hand-hewn timbers are visible in the central room. Many of the original furnishings are still there, although the house has been ransacked years ago. Some of the EVP's recorded there seem to be residual, while others are interactive, and are responses to questions asked. Some are complete sentences, and although nothing is heard duing an investigative recording session, can be heard on playback with very little amplification.

Gary and Nanci discovered a piece of property that is being sub-divided to sell and secured permission to go in an old house that is still standing there. Gary decided it would be a great place to do some recordings. The door has broken glass and stands open. The desire to record there on this lonely country side and absolute quietness has paid off. He and Nanci have gotten a lot of EVPs from this place. Some that cannot be put on the web, due to content.
Being taken with the place, Gary set about to gain some history about the people and the house. He found the family's name. They have probably been deceased for some time. It seems the old home was built around an old slave cabin. Some parts of the walls are torn out and simply eroding in general, making the cabin walls visible. The stairway from the living room up has the stair board ripped out, but the upstairs is still accessible from a tightly made little stairway from the back part of the house near the kitchen.
It is strange... the amount of furniture and boxes of junk that have been left behind. It almost seems as though someone just left and never went back for the rest of their belongings. There is even a piano in the living room. Granted, there is nothing expensive or eye-appealing, but it still seems strange to have been left in such a sad state of affairs.
Every chance Gary and Nanci could break free, they took their recorders and off to the house they went. They have found it an EVP haven. They have tried various times to go, but it seems late night produces more audio evidence for them.
Gary and Nanci were eager to share their find with the entire Ghostec team. They first took Peggy there, then on a second visit, Jonathan and Sandy. Peggy and Sandy are our Impressionist for the team and we all wanted to know what they felt. Peggy is often flooded with past events and Sandy is known for her olfactory senses. Peggy was a bit uneasy in one of the rooms and decided not to push any further into the house. She rarely gets names, but almost immediately felt a little girl and the told them her name is "Dixie". Sandy felt she was having a hard time breathing in the house and told them she was going to leave. Jonathan is totally based in science and was busy getting recordings. The name "Dixie" was on an EVP recorded when Peggy was present, confirming the name she picked up.
A few weeks later, I had a free day and decided to pick up Jonathan and ride out there. Jonathan, already being familiar with the place, walked right in. I managed to get in the living room and started into what was either a kitchen or dining room... my chest tightened up and I realized I could not breathe well. I told Jonathan that it would be impossible for me to go any further and I went outside. It was a few minutes down the road before I actually felt normal again.
Being a paranormal investigator, I was not to be outdone... my goodness what happened here! Sandy had gotten off work early one day and dropped by for coffee. We talked and it was the first time we had shared our "breathing" problems in the house. With that, we decided to return and face whatever caused our problems.
We arrived at the old house about 2PM, a sunny and fairly warm day. We yelled and made noise in case there might be an animal in the house. Satisfied we were alone, we walked in. We were quiet and tried to walk about the house. I was being affected more than Sandy this time. I knew if I wanted to record or take pictures it would have to be quickly. I dashed up the back stairs and did about a minute recording in each room, snapped off a few pictures and that was it. I was breathing so badly, I knew I had to leave. Sandy got some of the breathing problems as well, but not as much as her first visit. Nothing paranormal showed up in the pictures or on the recordings. All I seemed to have gotten was a bird outside that chirped four times after each question I asked.
Gary and Nanci told me they found an oxygen tank there in the house and wondered if I may have picked up on past condition of one of the residents of the home. Guess we will never know. The closest neighbors are in their nineties and memory does not serve them well.
Impression: It could be something environmental that affected me as well as Sandy and Peggy, or maybe it was something from the netherworld... who knows! At any rate, I will leave this old house and its revealing secrets to Gary, Nanci and Jonathan who seem to get along with it just fine.
Hopefully we will have some EVPs up from this old place soon. One in particular says "Dixie".
